Deerfield Township, in Cumberland County, is a rural farming community in South Jersey, situated in the agricultural interior of one of the state’s least densely populated counties. The township lies between Bridgeton to the west and Vineland to the east, in a landscape of flat farmland, vegetable fields, and woodland that defines much of Cumberland County’s character. The area is a significant agricultural producer within New Jersey’s farm economy.
Cumberland County has a developing craft beverage scene, with winery and brewery operations that reflect the agricultural base of the region. The grape-growing conditions in parts of Cumberland County, along with local fruit production, support small farm wineries and cideries. For Deerfield Township residents, the nearest craft beverage options are found in Bridgeton, Vineland, and Millville, as well as in neighboring Salem and Gloucester counties to the north. The Cape May County wine trail is also accessible to the southeast. The rural character of the township means that production venues in this area tend toward farm-scale operations rather than urban taproom formats.
