Edison Township, in Middlesex County, is one of the larger municipalities in central New Jersey by both area and population, situated between New Brunswick to the north and Woodbridge to the northeast along the Route 1 and Garden State Parkway corridors. The township was renamed for Thomas Edison, who operated his Menlo Park laboratory here in the late 19th century. Edison’s size and highway access have made it a commercial and industrial center for Middlesex County.
Middlesex County’s craft beverage scene has grown in parallel with the broader North Jersey and Central Jersey brewing expansion, and Edison’s large population and central location have supported taproom openings across the township. The proximity to New Brunswick, which has its own craft brewery presence, extends the local options for residents. For visitors passing through on the Turnpike or Parkway, Edison is a practical stop. The county also includes distillery operations, and the Route 9 and Route 1 corridors connect easily to craft venues in Monmouth County to the south and Somerset County to the west.
