Freehold is the county seat of Monmouth County, located in the inland center of the county roughly 20 miles west of the Jersey Shore. The borough has a compact historic downtown surrounded by Freehold Township, and the area draws visitors for its Revolutionary War history at Monmouth Battlefield State Park. Monmouth County’s craft beverage scene has developed alongside the county’s population growth, with breweries appearing in the Freehold area to serve the large inland residential base.

The surrounding farmland in central Monmouth County has also supported small-scale winery and cidery operations in recent years. Freehold sits at the intersection of Route 9, Route 33, and Route 537, making it one of the most accessible points in Monmouth County by car. For craft beverage visitors, it represents the inland Monmouth alternative to the Shore-focused taproom scene in Asbury Park, Belmar, and Red Bank, and connects easily to the Mercer and Middlesex County craft beverage scenes to the northwest and north along Routes 33 and 9.
