Hammonton is a town in Atlantic County in the Pine Barrens region of South Jersey, widely known as the blueberry capital of New Jersey and one of the state’s more significant agricultural towns. The surrounding farmland produces blueberries, cranberries, and wine grapes, and Hammonton sits at the center of a small but established Atlantic County wine corridor. Several wineries operate in and around the Hammonton area, taking advantage of the sandy, well-drained soils that suit viticulture in southern New Jersey.
The town also has a historically Italian-American community that has long supported small-scale wine production in the region. Hammonton sits at the intersection of Route 30 and the White Horse Pike, making it accessible from both the Atlantic City Expressway and the main east-west routes across South Jersey. For wine-focused visitors, Hammonton and the nearby Egg Harbor City area represent the core of Atlantic County’s winery scene. Craft breweries have also appeared in the region, and the town’s position at the edge of the Pinelands puts it within easy reach of the Shore communities to the east and the Salem County agricultural towns to the southwest.
