Oceanport, in Monmouth County, is a small borough along the Shrewsbury River between Red Bank to the northwest and Long Branch to the northeast. The borough is best known as the former home of Fort Monmouth, the Army Signal Corps installation that closed in 2011 and has since been redeveloped for mixed commercial and residential use. That activity has brought new business investment to the Shrewsbury River corridor and expanded the audience for local hospitality venues.
Craft beverage venues in Oceanport draw from the same Monmouth County base that supports taprooms in neighboring Red Bank, Tinton Falls, and the Shore communities. The borough’s position along the Navesink and Shrewsbury river system puts it within a short drive of several Monmouth County craft beverage destinations, making it a natural addition to a day trip through the inland Shore towns. The continued buildout of the former Fort Monmouth property is likely to bring additional commercial activity to the immediate area in coming years.
