Rio Grande, in Cape May County, is an unincorporated community in Middle Township near the southern end of the Garden State Parkway corridor, positioned close to the gateway to Cape May and the Wildwood resort area. The community functions as a commercial hub for the lower Cape May peninsula, and its location on the main Route 9 artery means significant through-traffic from visitors heading to the Shore towns at the tip of the state.

Cape May County supports New Jersey’s most concentrated cluster of farm wineries, many of them in the agricultural interior of the peninsula rather than along the beachfront. Rio Grande’s central position in Middle Township places it near several of those venues and makes it a practical base for a winery touring day in the region. Visitors arriving via the parkway often use the Rio Grande exit as their entry point into the Cape May County craft beverage circuit, which extends north through Dennis Township and connects to the wine operations scattered throughout the county’s interior farmland.
